About Me

Screen Shot 2015-07-30 at 2.36.21 PMIn 2005, I heard about a new thing called “blogging”. It sounded like an interesting tool for my six-year-old students. The children and I jumped in… and people started to read what we had to say!
Given the success of blogging as a classroom tool, we began exploring other emerging technologies, such as Skype and Twitter.
Other classrooms began to join in and we found ways to connect and learn with students from around the world.
Ten years later, we are still learning and connecting.
I am a full time grade one teacher. I began this blog for other educators, to share my enthusiasm for using social media in the classroom. Join me and see how technology has positively impacted student learning in my classroom.
In addition to blogging, I am a published author and a conference speaker . In my spare time, you can usually find me on my bike or with my nose in a historical fiction novel.

    1. Are you on Twitter, Robyn? If so, I would just ask via Twitter, using the hashtag #3rdchat. Another option is to go to http://education.skype.com/ where you can search for classrooms of a similar level. If you aren’t on Twitter, I would happily tweet that for you. Just send me your email address and I’ll privately give it to anyone who responds. (kathy[at]kathycassidy.com)

  2. Hello, Kathy Cassidy,

Thank you so much for sharing all the amazing things you do with your 1st graders. Also congratulations on your awards and your book(s).

I am a retired Reading Recovery/guided reading/classroom teacher and author of leveled readers. My books have just come out as ebooks, and I am trying to find everything I can about teaching reading to 1st graders with ebooks. Your website has been a huge help.

Best to you, and thanks again,

  3. Hello Kathy! I’m attending a Solution Tree conference in Spring, TX and am in Will Richardson’s session who mentioned your blog. Imagine my great surprise to discover you are a fellow Moose Javian! I was born and raised in Moose Jaw and lived there until I married to a Texan but return every summer. I about fell out of my chair-no one is ever from Moose Jaw. Great job on all that you do! Keep up the amazing work. I’d love to set up a Skype between classes one day.
